Dickinson’s first radio station, WDCV, will be in operation Sunday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m.

Ok, so even though this article says WDCV’s first date to broadcast will be November 18th 1962…..it actually wasn’t. And truthfully, we can’t pinpoint the actual day either. We have been able to isolate a window of time though. The next Dickinsonian article the references the inaugural broadcast is from December 14th 1962 but it never says definitively when it happened. We think it’s around December 1st or so but all of the hours digging in the college archives still hasn’t allowed us to pinpoint an exact date. So that just means we will celebrate now through the end of the semester. It’s really not much of a change anyway since we have really been celebrating all.year.long.

November 14, 1969WDCV Absolved

…three members of the WDCV radio station along with three students who had made the accusations, met with the President and Treasurer of the Senate. Accusations were made and the radio station was given the opportunity to answer to the charges. At the end of the meeting, it was realized by all parties that the charges made against the radio station were unsubstantiated.

…The Finance Committee will soon recommend the establishment of procedures to be followed when a student wishes to bring formal procedures against an organization funded by the Student Senate.

November 12, 2009 Open Mic Night Draws Crowd Campus and...

November 12, 2009
Open Mic Night Draws Crowd Campus and community bands perform
By Geoff Arnold ’10 CONTRIBUTING WRITER (and WDCVer)

“The event lasted 90 minutes, during which six groups and individuals performed. The crowd favorite went on last. “My favorite [band] was the Sci-Fi Mystery Hour,” said Cari Peri ’10, editor-in-chief of The Square. Led by Jordan Capizzi ’12 and Matt Guariglia ’12, the group received an ovation after its final song, “Animal Kart 3.” Playing original alternative rock music, Capizzi said he really enjoyed the support from the crowd. “It was a great atmosphere, and there was a good selection of people there,” he said. Capizzi also commented that he enjoyed the chance to perform with two of the group’s new members, Zoe Meredith ’11 and Wilson Ricardo ’12.”

He Said, She Said Show Caters to Fellas and Ladies

WDCV 88.3, Dickinson College’s radio station gives a fresh taste of something different every Wednesday night. From 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. the “He Said, She Said” show hosted by Alex Pettaway ‘10, aka, Ace tha kidBoss, provides Dickinson students and Cumberland County residents with brand new hip-hop and rhythm-and-blues. “First it’s an hour of underground hip hop, then it’s an hour of sex, love and r&b,” said Pettaway ’10. The concept behind the show is to escape the demographic genre of “black music” and separate the music into the proper audience, explains Pettaway. The first hour is meant primarily for the fellas, and the second segment is dedicated to the ladies. “The show is definitely one of the few good hip-hop shows in Carlisle and Ace has all the brand new songs,” said Brandon Pailin ’10. “I really enjoy knowing that I’m only going to listen to slow jams and not be interrupted by a rap song,” said Azucena Alvarado ’10. Ace speaks to his audience throughout the show and even gives shout-outs to avid listeners. “I’m sad that it’s my last year doing the show, but I’m definitely going to make it my best year,” said Pettaway.

One year after the smashing success of the WDCV-FM concert featuring Wiz Khalifa, the college radio station has announced its acts for this year’s show—and one of them features a former Dickinson student. The show on Friday, Nov. 12 will feature the performers Isis, a Canadian dance hip-hop artist, and Ton-Taun, an indie rock band led by former Dickinson student Jordan Capizzi.

WDCV has been called “alternative radio” since it plays various types of music, with programs designed to please Dickinson listeners, as opposed to the Nashville, rock or the “dentist-office type” music hear on most other local FM stations.

If you are a WDCV alum we would love to hear more about you and your time at WDCV. Can you fill out this quick survey ? It would be much appreciated!

October 23rd 1970Drug Relations and Information

“I hope that this will once and for all dispel the false notion that College officials may be able to give warning of intended ‘busts’, or that they may in some way protect students who break the law from the consequences of such acts”

Did it ever leave?

“So...

October 22nd 1992
WDCV is back! Did it ever leave?

“So turn your radios in to FM 88.3 and give them a call at 1444 for a request. They’ll play it; they play anything”

Note how the article calls the old station (where the devil den is now) an eyesore for potential students on tours. We are happy that Dickinson has considered moving us back into the open if and when they actually renovate the HUB. A station can dream, can’t it?
